Easter wishes from Bwindi

The Easter message and appeal from Bwindi Community Hospital:

Dear Supporters,

We would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a Happy Easter and to say thank you
for all the support you have given to us through your kind words, thoughts, visits and
donations. We would also like to share with you the need which inspired this Easter
Appeal. There are few other decent health services in this extremely remote area. Of which most health workers are absent or have low morale and patients wait for hours in queues.
At Bwindi Community Hospital, staff members are on duty 24 hours a day, we plan ahead so that no drug is ever out of stock, and we make sure all patients get timely attention. We
strive to recruit the best doctors and midwives in Uganda to serve patients well and achieve excellence.

Because of our reputation as one of the best hospitals in Uganda, people are often surprised to learn that many of our staff live in accommodations without lighting or running water and too small to house a family. This represents one of our biggest challenges in being able to
continue to provide health care to our needy local community. Good quality medical staff
are hard to find and then retain in Uganda, and these living conditions make it more difficult still.   So, we’ve concluded what is crucial to being able to continue our services is to build a
new block of staff housing units for midwives. By being located closer to the hospital, this
would also enable us to improve our emergency response and so save more lives of mothers and children.

The cost of building an eight staffing unit apartment is $100,000. Fortunately, we have
recently received a donation of $60,000 dedicated to this cause from two generous donors. With this donation, we have reached 60% of our $100,000 goal. We need your help to
achieve the remaining 40%. Would you consider making a gift towards this?
We thank you in advance for your support. Together we can save more lives in this remote
community. Donations of any amount are greatly appreciated and will help us reach our goal.
From the Bwindi Community Hospital staff, we wish you and your loved ones a Happy
Holiday!

Sincerely,
Dr. Birungi Rwamatware Mutahunga.
Exceutive Director.
